The "Eagle" Arbutus Dining Table

We locally sourced 5 fairly wide arbutus slabs that came from a tree that fell down on Vancouver Island. They were 32-34” wide which is rare to find. Our plan was to make dining tables and wanted each one to be ‘one of a kind’.

The first two tables we made as whole slabs with only checks being filled with epoxy. They turned out very nice. Simple, but had lots of character. The third project, we did a custom kitchen arbutus countertop for clients. We had two slabs left and wanted to do something different with them.

Our most favorite one of all is the last one we did, which we called “The Eagle” Arbutus table. We took the slab, cut it in half and turned the live edges on the inside. The center and all checks were filled with smoky grey epoxy and you could see through it . This table has so much unique character. One of the natural features is what looks to be an eagle that was a crevice in the table that we filled with the epoxy. We listed it in our in stock items and it sold quickly.

Here are the other two full slab dining tables and the kitchen countertop we designed.

We decided to take the last slab we have and cut it in half and turn the live edges on the inside, like we did with the eagle arbutus table, but we also plan to cast the entire table in epoxy. It is currently being made and we will post it in our in stock designs once its ready and will be for sale. Check back soon!
